The worldwide storage software market saw growth of 7.2 percent compared to the same quarter a year ago, logging revenues of US$3 billion (A$3.63 billion) , according to the latest quarterly figures from IDC.The analyst firm's Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker said that the market has experienced solid growth, despite a 1.6 percent decrease from the previous quarter."The gains in the storage software market in the first quarter of the year were the result of overall growth from many of the leading vendors, as well as the weak performance in [the first quarter of last year] due to economic conditions during that period," said Laura DuBois, a programme vice president for storage software at IDC."However, market demand for storage solutions has clearly returned, with five of the top six vendors showing positive growth year over year. Another quarter of growth will be a strong indicator that the storage software market is in recovery."Market leader EMC grew its revenues by 13.7 percent, HP by 8.7 percent, NetApp by 8.1 percent and CA by 7.2 percent. CommVault, which did not make it into the top five sellers list, saw its sales grow by a quarter.EMC and CommVault had the strongest year-over-year growth with revenues up 46.6 percent and 24.9 percent respectively.
