Cloud offering protects from threats before they can hit the network.

Security giant McAfee has launched a software-as-a-service (SaaS) security product designed to protect enterprises from web-based threats in the cloud before they can reach the corporate network.

McAfee SaaS Web Protection is based on the same scalable, multi-tenant platform architecture that powered the MX Logic solution, and works completely in the cloud, thus requiring no upfront investments in hardware or software.

The product uses McAfee’s Global Threat Intelligence network comprised of millions of threat sensors and more than 350 security experts globally to provide real-time and predictive threat intelligence and protection, said the vendor.

It features enhanced reporting, automated policy enforcement and granular controls over web security and usage, and the ability to secure remote offices and mobile users with the same centralised management.

Mark Olesen, McAfee’s general manager of content and cloud security, argued that the new SaaS product highlights how far web security has come – from web site monitoring to protecting against serious malware threats.

“McAfee SaaS Web Protection incorporates all the knowledge and experience we’ve gathered through the years, as well as the unique expertise and technologies gained from our recent acquisitions,” he added.

“Combine that with our McAfee Global Threat Intelligence capabilities in the cloud, and we think users will be hard pressed to find a better, more effective or reliable solution.”
