Samsung has taken the wraps off its new quad-core Exynos chipset – the processor that's almost certainly going to be packed into its upcoming Galaxy S III superphone.
That'll pit Samsung's forthcoming hardware against the rash of quad-core Tegra 3 devices we're expecting to see poking their noses over the MWC parapet. The new Exynos has four Cortex-A9 cores which have been redesigned to pay a 25 per cent power dividend over the current-gen Exynos and – according to EE Times – extend battery time by shutting off individual CPU cores. That means it uses almost half the power for regular tasks and 3D games could render with even more buttery smoothness.
All that points to a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Galaxy S III with dazzling graphics being pumped to a Super AMOLED Plus HD display, a long battery life and, of course, a trimmer form. Doesn't sound like the sort of thing we'd turn our noses up at.
Samsung will be showing off the new Exynos at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – and we'll be bringing you the latest news from the show. We'll be keeping our peepers peeled for any new mobiles packing this quad-core powerhouse – like, say, that Galaxy S III.
