Gains access to 6,000-strong partner network.

Oki Data Australia has signed a new distributor in Melbourne-based Multimedia Technology.

The announcement comes as the Japanese company seeks to expand its channel footprint in Australia and follows the recent opening of its new partner and customer demonstration centre n Sydney.

Oki currently has around 120 partners in Australia, however the deal just announced with MT exposes it to a network of more than 6,000.

“We’re very much looking forward to working with Multimedia Technology to build a quality channel of dealers to scale and service the growing market opportunity for Oki in Australia,” said Oki Data Australia sales manager Greg Mikaelian.

That opportunity was expected to come in the form of increased demand for affordable print solutions, something that Oki was confident of delivering thanks especially to the lower TCO (total cost of ownership) of its patented LED printing technology. Oki is also hoping to gain a market advantage through its seven-day 'try-before-you-buy' program.

"This is a real and tangible market differentiator," Mikaelian said.

Oki said one of the main reasons it chose to partner with MT was the latter's focus on the SMB market, the battle for which is expected to intensify as rival print makers look for fresh revenue streams.

Oki’s other distribution partners in Australia are Alloys, Bluechip InfoTech and XiT.
