Communications Minister Stephen Conroy will host an Online Retail Forum in Sydney this month to encourage retailers to explore online business options.
In light of the National Broadband Network and a recent public campaign by brick-and-mortar retail giants against international e-tailors, the forum would help Australian small businesses take advantage of the opportunities presented by the digital economy.
Speakers included eBay, PayPal, Shoes of Prey, Gray’s Online, Australia Post, Temando, DHL, Google and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
The panel discussion covered topics such as logistics, and the searching and purchasing trends of Australian online consumers.
Senator Conroy said the NBN would bring more Australians online and allow "retailers to expand their market and enhance their online offerings".
Senator Nick Sherry, Minister for Small Business was to deliver a closing keynote at the event.
The Government planned to use the Twitter hashtag #orf11 for those who could not physically attend the February 18 event.
