Apple iPad 3 gets sneaky CES review

We've been diligently reporting rumours of the Apple iPad 3 and its expected retina display for quite some time and now thanks to a leak at CES, it would appear that the rumours are true.

iLounge's Jeremy Horwitz reportedly had some hands-on time with Apple's next-gen iPad at CES, and according to his findings the iPad 3's main improvement over the current iPad 2 is the long-awaited retina display – possibly with dual bar LED technology for increased brightness.

The second noticeable difference was an iPhone 4S-like camera lens (minus the LED flash), suggesting that the iPad 3 will arrive packing the same 8MP camera as its cellular counterpart.

Interestingly these upgrades have resulted in the iPad 3's body being a mere 1mm thicker than the iPad 2, meaning all but the snuggest-fitting of accessories should still work with Apple's latest tablet.

The internet is now rife with rumours that Apple's next-gen tablet has entered production in China.

Macotakara reports that Foxconn and Pegatron Technology have started churning out iPad 3 units, potentially featuring Retina Displays provided by Sharp.

Given the pace at which these rumours are appearing, we're expecting to see them solidify into definitive information very soon. We'll keep you posted – as always – when they do.
