Human simulation firm Boston Dynamics has unveiled an upgrade to its latest creation - a robotic humanoid capable of walking up stairs.
The company is best known for its BigDog headless quadraped, developed in conjunction with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the United States Army, to be used as a robotic pack mule to accompany soldiers in terrain too rough for normal vehicles.
DARPA last year announced it would again team up with Boston Dynamics, pouring $US26.3 million ($25.4 million) into its PETMAN creation, released late October.
According to Boston Dynamics, PETMAN will be used to test special clothing used by the US Army.
Boston Dynamics this week debuted an upgraded PETMAN able to walk up stairs. It is also able to walk on a moving runway and do pushups.
