Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 will launch in Australia on Thursday morning from the company's new experience centre in Sydney.

The 16GB wifi model of the new tablet will retail for $589. It will also hit JB HiFi and Harvey Norman stores at the end of the week. Samsung confirmed a 16GB 3G model will launch in the coming weeks but declined to comment on price.

The bigger sister to the 5.5in Galaxy Note smartphone/tablet hybrid was first revealed in early August. The new Note is positioned as a fully-fledged tablet and includes the staple Samsung S Pen seen with the first iteration of the device.

It sports a 10.1in screen, almost double the size of the predecessor, and also includes a new multiscreen feature that enables two different applications to run simultaneously side by side. 

The Android tablet is targeted squarely at Apple's 9.5in iPad.

Samsung today opened the doors of its new experience centre on George St in Sydney. It is located just metres away from its main rival Apple's similarly-styled retail outlet. Both stores sit in the main retail hub of Sydney, next to the likes of JB HiFi, Myer and Harvey Norman.

Samsung's store is located at 450 George St. Apple is just 200 metres away at number 367.

The store is the first of its kind for Samsung in Australia. The company last month launched an experience centre in Canada, the first for North America.
