The CEOs of mobile giants Apple and Samsung have been ordered to appear at a San Francisco courthouse as part of an ongoing and bitter battle over mobile patents.
Apple head Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Choi Gee-Sung were instructed to take part in court-supervised mediation today in an attempt at alternative resolution in the pair’s long-running dispute over mobile device patents, reports Reuters.
Apple claims Samsung copied its iPhone smartphone with its Galaxy range. Samsung has counterclaimed for patent infringement. The pair have filed more than 20 lawsuits in 10 countries since the issue first arose in April 2011.
The case will go to trial at the end of July. The mediation session will run for two days and is the pair’s second attempt at pre-trial resolution, the first involving the CEOs.
"There is still a big gap in the patent war with Apple but we still have several negotiation options including cross-licensing," Samsung mobile division chief JK Shin told Reuters.
