William Maher has written extensively about PCs and technology since the early days of the dot com boom, including stories on hacking, the rise of Linux, special effects in Hollywood, and the evolution of portable computers and wireless. He has covered international technology events such as Intel IDF in Beijing and IBM Lotusphere in Florida and has worked in numerous print and online roles, including labs editor, news editor, features editor, and deputy editor. Prior to working at PC Authority he was deputy editor at APC Magazine, an online journalist for APC Newswire, as well as a contributor in the past to Money Magazine, 4W4 Australia, The Bulletin and Motor.

William studied journalism at Charles Sturt University, and has been nominated for many industry awards, including Winning the Most Entertaining Writer award (2004 Consensus IT Writers Awards), and being a Finalist for Most Controversial Writer in the same year.

Innovations like broadband and portable MP3 keep William excited about technology, though he wishes more tech companies understood the term "user-friendly". William believes the biggest story in consumer technology is the way the Internet is affecting our social interactions - from online gaming, forums, to mobile messaging and Facebook.
