Chip wars: Intel, AMD both gain on competitors

Research firm iSuppli's Q1 report has Santa Clara chip giant Intel picking up the short-term gains in global microprocessor market share, Advanced Micro Devices has the long-term juice and x86 continues to deliver a massive architectural beat down on all comers.

Intel has continued to dominate the processor market in 2008, according to analysts. However, researchers have said that rival chipmaker AMD could offset its slow start to the year by making long-term gains.

In other news, small and medium sized enterprises need to take a more comprehensive approach to securing critical business information, according to business communications firm Colt.
