Unboxed: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Hands-on with Samsung's new flagship tablet.
Aug 30, 2012
The box shares the same aesthetic as the rest of Samsung's Galaxy range.
When it comes to accessories, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with absolute basics: you get a USB cable with AC power adapter and a quick start manual.
Samsung has plumped for a basic, no-frills look with the Galaxy Note 10.1. While it's definitely less flashy than some of its competitors, we quite like the understated design.
The 10.1in touch screen provides plenty of real estate to display all of your apps. It has a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels.
There is a lot of variety when it comes to tablet cameras: some vendors toss it in as a cheap afterthought, while others attempt to provide a proper photography experience. The Samsung Note 10.1 straddles the middle-ground with a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash. Its output isn't exactly great, but it remains acceptable for social networking sites and the like.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is flanked by a pair of beefy stereo speakers.
Connectivity options are pretty meagre: in terms of physical ports, you're limited to a micro SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Galaxy Note 10.1's display isn't as sharp as the Apple iPad and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity but still provides vibrant colours and good viewing angles.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 isn't called 'Note' for nothing: it comes with an inbuilt stylus designed with sketching and note-taking in mind.
The included S Note application provides a fun distraction but you're not going to produce any works of art with this thing: mastering the stylus can be quite tricky.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is available now for an RRP of $589. Stay tuned for a full review, coming soon.
