3 Mobile enlists online help to secure iPhone

3 Mobile is enlisting legions of its customers to pile Internet pressure on Apple in an attempt to secure the iPhone for its network.

3 has admitted it won’t be stocking the iPhone come July 11, the official Australian launch date of the new 3G device.

While 3 Mobile was the first company in Australia to launch a 3G network in 2003, its failure to secure the popular iPhone for its network has led it to look to the Internet for help.

In response, it has launched a Website that urges its customers to voice their disdain over Apple’s decision to limit the current Australian iPhone suppliers to three.

Vodafone and Optus announced their intention to sell the 3G iPhone earlier this month and it is expected that Telstra will join the bandwagon a couple weeks later with its own launch.

“Ever since Apple’s announcement that a 3G iPhone is coming, we’ve had lots of calls and emails – the main flavour is people wanting to get the value that 3 offers with the iPhone,” said 3 Mobile’s director sales, marketing & product, Noel Hamill in a statement.

So far, 3's online iPhone petition has attracted over 700 signatures. Customers can also SMS their support by sending the word "iPhone" to 333 000.
