Azurn International’s Merlin education platform has been chosen by Hughes Network Systems – a broadband satellite network provider - for the lucrative Indian education market.

The deal will also see the local Australian technology developer deliver on-site education through Hughes’satellite broadband network.

Ananda Rao, CEO and MD of Azurn International, told CRN its Merlin platform is an interactive coaching and tutoring system used for distance education. Broadband satellite allows it to support audio, video and data content delivery.

“This is a global licensing deal whereby Azurn will receive a licensing fee of US$150 per user,” said Rao.

“Both companies will share the revenue partnership for the delivery of education content worldwide.”

According to Rao, Hughes offers education services to markets worldwide through a franchise model and government partnerships.

“Its primary market is India where it delivers solutions to around 100 cities,” he said.

“With Azurn’s technology it plans to expand the current offering to around 500 cities in India within the next 18 months or 30,000 education delivery centres.”

He claimed it will also pursue market opportunities in the US, Europe, Brazil and Australia with, Hughes.

“Despite the uncertain economic climate, deals of this scale can still be made,” Rao said.
