HP has released a new dual-processor server for SMBs.

The company said its ProLiant ML150 server was aimed at firms with up to 250 staff. The ML150 was the first industry standard product in HP's new 100 series available for the Australian market, the vendor claimed.

Angus Jones, product marketing manager at HP's enterprise systems group, said the server was a response to what the company had heard from the Australian marketplace. The company believed the ProLiant ML150 had the right performance, features and price for growing SMBs.

'The HP ProLiant ML150 server is designed for businesses where price is the deal-breaker,' Jones said.

HP claimed the new server would prove attractive to resellers, partly because it suited different-sized businesses. It offered up to two processors, up to 12 GB of memory and 730 GB of storage capacity. Some components could be replaced without using tools, in a bid to cut down-time and maintenance costs, the company said.

The ML150 had two-way SMP-capable 2.4 or 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon processing, a dual-channel Ultra 320 SCSI controller, four PCI X slots and 'hot swap' models. The server was compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Linux operating systems, the company said.

The server would be available from January 2004, with a three-year parts, one-year labour and on-site support warranty but could be upgraded. RRP started at $2,245.
