The Premier of Victoria, John Brumby, and Minister for Information and Communication Technology, John Lenders, were guests at the launch.

The Bourke Street office meets a number of sustainability initiatives through its design, construction and operation of the building.

Peter O'Connor, area vice president NetApp A/NZ was delighted his high profile guests were able to attend.

"Their attendance is testament to the importance of the technology sector to the local economy, and the significance of a strong environmental strategy," he said.

O'Connor said NetApp shares in the global responsibility for protecting and preserving the environment.

"This includes working with customers to create energy-efficient data centres; implementing recycle programs within our own offices, running energy-management programs throughout all our facilities worldwide to manage power consumption, and options for employees to reduce their travel emissions through telecommuting," he said.

The building has a 4.5 "Australian Building Greenhouse Rating" (ABGR) energy rating, which promotes low-energy consumption through its air conditioning, lighting and lifts.

The double-glazed facade and special window design controls heat loads and encourages natural light into the workplace.

The building has also been designed to achieve a 5 star rating in accordance with the Office Design Rating Tool from the Green Building Council of Australia.
