HP has partnered with Red Hat to develop a solution for RISC Migration projects.

The solution offers Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on HP BladeSystems.

Every HP Blade server purchased between now and 31 October will include a free 60 day trial of Red Hat Enterprise Linux V5.3.

Cyrus Pestonji, manager for SMB and Channels, HP Technology Services said the trial will allow customers to test Linux and experience firsthand the IT business benefits that can be delivered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux on HP Blades.

A free trial CD will ship with every Blade server shipped and includes details for installation and how to access free support from HP during the trial period.

Everyone who activates a free trial of Red Hat Enterprise Linux V5.3 will be eligible for a $500 education credit offer, which can be used towards a range of selected HP and Red Hat courses.

"With today's cost pressures, customers are increasingly looking towards standards-based, open source software, running on a stable platform," said Pestonji.

"This is a great conversation starter for our channel partners in a challenging economic environment."

HP was one of the first technology solution providers to commit to Linux, and this promotion is the latest offering to help its customers realise the value open systems can deliver.
