Couldn’t do it without Basslink.

Internode has brought its NakedExtreme broadband service to Tasmania citing "viably priced backhaul" as making delivery possible.

The ISP launched the NakedExtreme products to the rest of Australia last August.

"Tasmania was left out due to the lack of competitive backhaul services across Bass Strait," Internode said.

"Today's launch follows Internode last month gaining access to the Basslink fibre-optic cable."

NakedExtreme services extend broadband reach from 4.1 km to as far as 7.5 km from the exchange.

Naked products offer a broadband service over a phone line with no dial tone. Internode said they cost $10 more than the equivalent Extreme ADSL2+ service but save a net $20 a month in fixed line access costs.

NakedExtreme availability in Tasmania would expand rapidly during the next six months, Internode product manager Jim Kellett said.

"We are installing our own equipment in an extra 10 telephone exchanges," he said.

The announcement came just days after it was revealed that Internode would revamp all its broadband plans in September or October.
