Providers lured by space and carriage services.

Internode has found an unexpected market for its enterprise data centre offering with managed service providers becoming tenants in the space.

The Adelaide-based ISP yesterday revealed an expansion of its East Coast data centre product with a dedicated suite in the Global Switch facility in Sydney.

The 50 square metre suite augmented existing space in a third-party suite in the same centre and in the nearby Equinix facility.

National sales manager Daryl Knight told CRN that managed service providers had become unexpected tenants, enticed by the combination of quality co-location space and Internode carriage services.

"We're certainly seeing a lot more interest from software-as-a-service and managed service providers," Knight said.

"We went into this with a view that [selling data centre space] would assist us with the deployment of more wide area network solutions. But by making the [data centre space] service available in the market, we've opened another option or alternative for [managed services providers].

"We just weren't having those types of discussions with providers until they realised they could leverage our facilities."

The product was typically targeted at mid-market enterprise customers on Australia's east coast.
