IBM Global Services and HP Services are the leaders in IT services in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a study released this week by Springboard Research, an IT market researcher. The report, "Asia Pacific IT Services Competitive Report: Survival of the Fittest," finds that IBM and HP Enterprise Services lead the market -- which does not include Japan -- with a combined market share of nearly 20 percent. The report breaks down into various market segments the providers' offerings. So, while IBM was the overall leader in the region, it was only the market-share leader for application services. HP Enterprise Services had the largest market share for infrastructure services, and Accenture was the market-share leader for consulting. IBM came in second in infrastructure services and consulting. Asian companies, including Korean providers such as Samsung SDS and LG CNS, scored well overall, but that is typical of "hometown" players, according to the study. The study also noted that those solution providers faced challenges in gaining market share outside Korea. In a release about the survey, Springboard's Sudip Saha, senior analyst of IT Services, said, "Organisations with a multidimensional approach to IT services, a focus on industry-specific solutions and ability to transform customer's business to keep pace with the market are better placed than any other service provider to overcome challenges that economic downturn creates." As a result, the next 12 to 24 months could be rife with strategic acquisitions by solution providers seeking to expand within the Asia-Pacific region, the study concluded.
