Skype has partnered with WiFi hotspot provider Boingo to provide free WiFi access across Australia this weekend.
The local offering was part of a global promotion that involved 100,000 worldwide hotspots between 8am on Saturday 20 March and 7.59am on Monday 22 March.
During this period, users could access the web for free via a newly launched feature called Skype Access.
In Australia, the promotion involved 2016 Boingo hotspots, including 610 in Sydney, 581 in Melbourne, 328 in Brisbane and 109 in Perth.
Skype Access was available on Skype version 2.8 for Mac or version 4.2 for Windows, and normally allowed users to purchase WiFi access for $0.33 of Skype credit per minute.
