Software optimised for datacentres and virtualised environments

Siemens has unveiled new unified communications (UC) software optimised for datacentres and virtualised environments.

OpenScape UC Server 2010 is designed for standards-based open virtualisation strategies, and includes subscription pricing to alleviate the economic hurdles to UC.

Siemens also launched OpenScape Fusion, a packaged integrations platform that simplifies the integration of real-time communications with other business applications.

OpenScape UC Server 2010 is an agnostic solution that speaks to cross-platform business applications, and makes the jump to next-generation deployment cheaper and simpler, according to Siemens.

Most datacentres use just 20 per cent of a server's power load, and are tied to proprietary formats and applications.

OpenScape UC Server 2010 was built to help run those resources more efficiently by reducing investment hardware and space while putting less stain on IT managers, the firm said.

"The OpenScape UC Server 2010 platform brings together all of the requirements for unifying existing enterprise communications systems into one platform that is open and flexible, taking advantage of cloud and social media trends," said Eve Aretakis, executive vice president of voice and application platforms at Siemens Enterprise Communications.

"While other vendors would lock customers into their proprietary stacks and advocate a rip-and-replace approach, we want to offer our customers the most flexibility and choice in achieving their business goals."
