The Victorian Government has pledged 500 Apple iPads to eight schools and a hospital to trial the educational potential for the device.
The state will give the 16GB Wi-Fi version of the device to students at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Manor Lakes P-12 Specialist College in Wyndham Vale, and to ill students in the Royal Children's Hospital.
"This trial will allow us to understand the impact of iPads on student learning and communication, and on the way teachers plan and deliver curriculum in the classroom," Premier John Brumby said.
The Department is finalising the remaining schools that will participate in the trial, Brumby said.
