Security concerns lift Ninefold prospects

Local hosting driving business interest.

Less than two months after opening for business, cloud storage service provider Ninefold will add wholesale to its bow following strong demand from resellers looking for Australian infrastructure for their clients.

“We are now starting to focus on this as an important channel to market,” said Ninefold managing director Peter James. Ninefold was talking to at least “half a dozen” integrators and consultancies, he said.

James said Ninefold was the only Australian-hosted cloud storage service and the first on storage giant EMC's Atmos platform to be offered locally.

“Along with our virtual servers, it means Ninefold now provides the complete cloud computing package, with the added advantages of local support, fast speeds and billing in local currency,” James said.

“Having EMC’s industry-leading cloud service portfolio Atmos under the covers enables us to provide local businesses with a strong, competitively priced and attractive Australian alternative to Amazon [web services] S3".

EMC said Atmos' more efficient and simpler deployment save users money.

James said the issue of where data was held was a stumbling block for many: “Anyone who has concerns about security should be thinking about where data is stored”.

Ninefold customers have their data stored in Sydney with the company’s other technology partner, Macquarie Telecom.
