Site expects to have more than 1000 units.

If you thought you missed your chance at snapping up a $98 tablet when the HP Touchpad was sold off at drastically reduced prices, it might not be too late.

While HP told us last week that a final batch of Touchpads wouldn't be sold in Australia, that doesn’t mean you can't get your hands on one, if you're prepared to go through unofficial channels.

A final shipment of Touchpads is expected in Australia at the end of September, according to web site MobiCity, which specialises in selling unlocked and hard to find phones. In a blog post dated August 25, the company stated it would be "acquiring over 1,000 units".

At this stage, it appears that MobiCity itself is waiting on confirmation of this shipment  - the latest post on its site notes that "no one, including us has received an invoice or contract for these units at this stage, and it is not HP's policy to do so in this specific circumstance until closer to delivery date."

For the meantime, MobiCity is inviting customers to "lock in" an order now, which will be placed on backorder. The site is taking orders at:

Australian HP Touchpad orders here.

New Zealand HP Touchpad orders here.

Ordering a Touchpad this way won't get you the same $98 deal that was offered by Harvey Norman before its stocks ran out. Mobicity is advertising the 16GB HP Touchpad is advertised at $249, and the 32GB model at $299.
