LG's Optimus smartphone range is about to become a whole lot more desirable, as LG confirms its Transformer-inspired line of smarties are all being treated to an Ice Cream Sandwich update. Taking to Facebook to make the announcement, the Korean manufacturer let loose the news that the Optimus 2X, Optimus Black , Optimus 3D and Optimus LTE are all getting a taste of Android 4.0. Given that the former three devices have only recently been refreshed with Android Gingerbread 2.3, it's pleasantly surprising to see LG adopt the new OS along with everyone else, rather than drag its feet.
Don't feel too disheartened if you don't have any of the above handsets. LG would like to bring the update to as many of its phones as possible and has said that it will continue to evaluate Google's latest OS to determine whether it'll play nice with other, current LG smartphones. So don't write your LG phone off just yet – there's still a glimmer of hope.
While LG has confirmed an Optimus-bound ICS update, we're yet to get a concrete roll-out date for the internal overhaul (although LG is expected to share those details with the world next month). As ever, we'll bring you the deets as and when we get them. You may also like Apple takes delivery of 4in screen for iPhone 5Gift guide – smartphonesMacBook Air to get a 15in version
