Nexus S gets Ice Cream Sandwich

Elder Google phone gets Android 4.0 injection.

Early adopting Nexus S users – your time to jump around and pour scorn on serial smartphone upgraders has come. You can now download the latest version of Android – that's 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich – in an over-the-air update to your handset.

And rest assured, all the bugs should have been spotted and swatted by Google employees who've already got a test version of ICS on their Nexus S phones. All the clever new Ice Cream Sandwich features will be there – including viewing recently used apps – although some users are reporting that Face Unlock, our favourite security setting so far, might be unique to the Galaxy Nexus, even though the Nexus S has a front facing snapper.

You'll be able to pick up a Nexus S for less than the new ICS flagship handset, the Galaxy Nexus. And Android 4.0 arriving on the Nexus S might just convince us to add another contender to this Christmas' smartphone wars.
