'Cool unique bits' added on.

Samsung's Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note aren't the only devices to get an Ice Cream Sandwich update in Q2 of this year. Sony's first Android tabs – the wedge-shaped Tablet S and split screened Tablet P – are also getting an official Android 4.0 OS bump.

Whisperings of a Sony tablet ICS update began doing the rounds back in January, when it was also revealed Sony was quite keen to chuck in "some really cool unique bits." While that made no sense to us back then, things are starting to become clear.

Sony tells us the updates – due at the end of April – will include some of its own add-ons, such as getting your game on with its PS3 controller compatibility, to make better use of its PlayStation certification. This means ditching the on-screen controls to play classic PS titles how they're meant to be played – not to mention exploring new games with physical controls.

Perhaps less exciting than baking controller support into ICS – but something that will no doubt be appreciated by multimedia munchers – will be the tab's ability to watch content recorded on compatible Sony Blu-Ray recorders via a dedicated app called Recopla.

The news, which comes straight from Sony Japan, makes no specific mention of UK updates, so we're hoping the UK is involved in all the ICS update action, or at least soon after.
