Intel has given attendees at its IDF 2012 conference in Beijing a sneak peek at an upcoming laptop-tablet hybrid.
Codenamed ‘Letexo’, the prototype device running Windows 8 with Microsoft’s Metro interface was presented with the ability to transform between a tablet, all-in-one PC and ultrabook, thanks largely to a screen that slides over the keyboard and trackpad.
The hybrid ultrabook appears to have kept the laptop design, offering two USB ports and an HDMI input.
The chip maker is touting the device as “the best of a clamshell and the best of a tablet, all in a next-generation ultrabook.”
It will likely run Intel’s upcoming Ivy Bridge processors, expected to launch in the next few months.
Intel is not the first to market with a laptop-tablet hybrid. It follows Asus’ 2011 launch of the Eee Pad Slider, an Android hybrid with a built-in keyboard. Asus has also released the more popular Eee Pad Transformer tablet with attachable keyboard.
