Microsoft's original Surface table will not be relegated to the scrap heap, despite the company using the branding on its new range of home-brand tablets announced yesterday.
The Samsung-built LED table originally launched as 'Surface 2.0' when it debuted in late 2011. Then carrying a 30-in rear-projection display, the product has now been given a new name and size after Microsoft moved the Surface brand to its new tablet line.
The newly-named Samsung SUR40 boasts a 40-inch LCD and retains the PixelSense technology seen in the original Surface 2.0.
The technology allows the SUR40 to recognise fingers, hands and other objects on the touchscreen display.
The table is currently available in the Australian market. It will officially launch locally next Thursday.
A Samsung representative declined to comment on Australian pricing. It has been officially priced in the UK at £7,499 ($A11,578).
