Apple reseller Wise IT has been placed in receivership after defaulting on payments to its secured creditor, Apple Computer Australia.

Earlier this month, Apple appointed Scott Kershaw and Murray Smith from McGrath Nicol as receivers for the company.

Speaking to CRN, Barry Kogan senior manager at McGrath Nicol said the receiver was trying to sell the business and had placed advertisements in the Sydney Morning Herald and Hobart Mercury on Friday.

Wise IT has 25 staff working in offices in Hobart, Tasmania and Burwood, Sydney. “They defaulted on their security and receivers were appointed,” Kogan said.

Kogan could not confirm how much money was owed to other trade creditors. No banks were involved and Wise IT was continuing to trade, he said.

Wise IT is the second Apple reseller to run into trouble this year. Financial difficulty forced education reseller Unimac to close its doors in January. That reseller was sold to Computers Now a month later.

Alan Lawson, CEO at Wise IT was not available for comment at press time.

Wise IT sells into the education sector, providing services for the likes of the Catholic Education Office in Tasmania.

The reseller’s website said Lawson is a former full-time teacher, deputy principal and academic coordinator at independent and state schools.
