STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Telecom equipment firm Ericsson said on Monday it was buying US-based fiber access technology company Entrisphere for an undisclosed amount.
Ericsson said that the US firm, which has around 140 employees, had a product portfolio ready for "volume deployment" which met international and North American standards.
"The acquisition strengthens Ericsson's fixed broadband access portfolio and its position in converged networks," it said in a statement.
Fiber access technology is important for high definition IPTV and IP-based services which require a lot of bandwidth.
