ASUSTEK IS PLANNING to release the EeeMonitor, a built-into-the-screen, compact solution along the same lines as the Apple Imac.

According to reports, the new desktop will follow the Eee range's policy of cheap 'n' cheerful computing on a budget, so don't expect anything of Apple's industrial glass and aluminium chic, or its wallet-withering price point. Or anything more advanced in the OS stakes than Linux or Windows XP.

Jerry Shen, who let slip the news of the upcoming addition at a recent press briefing, would not comment on possible configurations or pricing.
