After 16 years of business, hardware distributor Tecksel has closed its doors.

After 16 years of business, hardware distributor Tecksel has closed its doors.

The distributor’s affairs are now in the hands of Australian-based insolvency specialists, Star Dean-Willcocks.

Tecksel started in 1991 as a modem distribution company. By 1997 it had broadened its product portfolio to include Netgear’s range of networking products, as well as Kyocera Mita range of Ecosys printers, products from Eaton Powerware and Level 1.

The distributor was also signed on by Unwired in 2005 to help the ISP make a push fro the SMB market.

Phone calls made by CRN to Tecksel's Sydney office and Leigh Mutimer, managing director at Tecksel yielded no answers.

However John Robinson, sales and marketing director of Digital Data Communications, which owns the Level 1 brand of products, confirmed the distributor’s closure.

“At this stage there is no major impact to the Level 1 brand of products. I have a meeting with Leigh [Mutimer] tomorrow, and will determine what impact it will have on our business after that meeting,” he said.

Previous to working at DDC, Robinson was the national sales manager at Altech and was also the country manager for AMD.

When CRN last spoke with Robinson in February he said he was “looking for something now and back on the market after a short honeymoon in distribution.”

“I have been very selective in choosing my next position. I wanted to look at doing something that I had experience in and do what I am good at doing,” he told CRN.
