Geek buys failed A1 Computing's managed services division

South Australian IT services provider Geek has acquired the 'SystemCare' managed services division of financially-troubled A1 Computing.

Geek managing director Jon Paior said it acquired the division prior to administrators being appointed at A1. 

ASIC documents obtained by CRN showed Stephen Glen James and John Maxwell Morgan from Bentleys Corporate Recovery in SA were appointed on November 24.

The 14-year-old Adelaide-based A1 Computing’s owner and director Charles Franks has retired and could not be reached for comment. In a media statement, however, he said, "the time is right and I am so happy to find a place for my clients and my outstanding staff."

The purchase price was undisclosed but Adam Basedow, MCP Business Consultant at Geek told CRN that two staff, 50 customers with 800 managed computers were part of the deal. It had also bought the A1 domain name and phone number.

SystemCare - primarily a Kaseya partner - would expand Geek’s managed services portfolio, Basedow said. Other Geek vendor partners include  Microsoft, IBM and Internode.

Further, as a Cisco select partner, Geek expects to be able to offer further systems development, improvements and efficiencies to its new clients.

"These skills and new product offerings will give SystemCare clients a broader range of high quality products and services," the company said.
