Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1

Why it's hot: With the Latitude 7390 2-in-1, Dell has taken what we've appreciated most about past Latitude models and added in handy 2-in-1 convertibility along with Microsoft's excellent Precision Touchpad.

The laptop sports an appealing black color scheme, a bright touch display and a backlit keyboard featuring comfortable, deep keys. Other highlights include terrific performance from an eighth-gen Intel Core i7 processor and some business-friendly security features, among them Windows Hello facial recognition log-in.

The Latitude 7390 2-in-1 is also highly portable, weighing just above three pounds and measuring 1.77 cm thick. In addition, business users will like the generous port selection, with two USB-A, two USB-C, HDMI and two card slots (SIM and SD).

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

Display: 13.3 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution

Why it's hot: Dell's convertible version of the popular XPS 13 offers much of what users like about the traditional version—including a slim-bezel "InfinityEdge" display and highly portable form factor (starting weight of 1.22 kg, thickness of 1.37 cm of an inch).

The XPS 13 2-in-1 also offers strong battery life at up to 15 hours. Along with convertibility—and the ability to work with the optional Dell Active Pen—another key difference is the inclusion of low-power processors from the eighth-gen Intel Core Y series, which enables a fanless design. The chassis for the latest XPS 13 2-in-1 remains the same as in the original 2017 release.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1

Display options: 15.6 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) or 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution

Why it's hot: Last year, Dell launched its first 2-in-1 version of the XPS 15. Along with its 360-degree hinge for folding the display, the laptop offers differences from the clamshell XPS 15 including a form factor that is 5 percent thinner (1.6 cm thick).

Dell says that makes the convertible XPS 15 the thinnest 15.6-inch 2-in-1 on the market. Even with that slim profile, Dell managed to include quad-core Intel CPU options (eighth-gen Core i5-8305G or Core i7-8705G) that are integrated with discrete AMD graphics (Radeon RX Vega M GL) — one of the first deployments of a processor integrating Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs. In addition, the XPS 15 2-in-1 offers up to 15 hours of battery life.

HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3

Display options: 13.3 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) or 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution

Why it's hot: For the third-generation model of the EliteBook x360 1030, display options go up to 700 nits of brightness and can include an optional Sure View integrated privacy screen. The 2-in-1 laptop features a reduction in overall size, including through slimming down the left and right bezels by 50 percent.

All in all, the latest EliteBook x360 has a 10 percent smaller footprint than the previous model. The weight has also been kept at a highly portable 1.25 kg, down from 1.28 kg

HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5

Display: 14 inches; FHD (1,920 x 1,080) or 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution

Why it's hot: HP's EliteBook x360 1040 G5 features a slimmed-down bezel that makes it a 14-inch notebook that fits on a typical 13-inch chassis.

For security, the 2-in-1 laptop has an option for the second-generation integrated privacy screen, Sure View. Other key security features include Sure Recover, which allows an image to be restored even without internet connectivity, and the fourth generation of HP's self-healing BIOS technology, Sure Start.

Meanwhile, the EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is available with optional 4G LTE connectivity, so that the notebook can serve as an "always connected" device for users.

HP Spectre Folio

Display: 13.3 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution

Why it's hot: HP is calling the Spectre Folio the world's first "leather convertible PC," with its exterior wrapped by 100-percent genuine leather.

For brightness, the display offers a choice between 300 nits and 400 nits. The notebook also comes with an HP digital pen that is stored in a genuine leather pen holder on the side of the display.

Key specs include 18 hours of battery life and low-power, eighth-generation Intel processors that don't require a fan. Unlike the "stand mode" offered on other convertibles, the Spectre Folio features "forward mode," where the screen comes forward and magnetically locks into position closer to your viewing.

In addition, for the Spectre Folio's tablet mode, the screen doesn't flip all the way around to the back as on other convertible notebooks; instead, the display just pulls further forward from its "forward mode" position to lay down flat.

Lenovo Yoga C930

Display: 13.9 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) or 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution

Why it's hot: Lenovo's latest flagship Yoga gets a major update to its speakers with the inclusion of a Rotating Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos technology—which aims to offer excellent audio regardless of the mode you're using the 2-in-1 laptop in.

The digital pen, meanwhile, now is housed in the back of the notebook itself for easier access. Other key features include a built-in webcam shutter, up to 14.5 hours of battery life and eighth-gen Intel Core processors.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Display options: 14 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) or WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution

Why it's hot: For the third generation of Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Yoga, the convertible laptop supports Dolby Vision HDR for improved color and brightness (up to 500 nits).

Meanwhile, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga adds eighth-generation Intel Core processors and offers battery life of up to 15 hours. The latest X1 Yoga also comes with better microphones and optional LTE connectivity. In addition, as a 2-in-1 laptop, the X1 Yoga offers an integrated ThinkPad Pen Pro and a retractable keyboard. (Note: While Lenovo has announced the fourth-gen model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, it won't be available until June.)

LG Gram 14 2-in-1

Display: 14 inches; FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution

Why it's hot: As LG's first 2-in-1, the LG Gram 14 2-in-1 continues the tradition of the lightweight but powerful line of Gram notebooks. Even with its convertibility and 14-inch screen size, the LG Gram 14 2-in-1 weighs just 1.14 kg while measuring 1.78 cm thick.

The lightweight form factor comes thanks to the use of magnesium alloy for the laptop's metal body. But the first Gram 2-in-1 doesn't sacrifice performance, offering processors from Intel's latest series of eighth-generation chips, known as "Whiskey Lake."

The convertible is available with up to the Core i7-8565U processor (clock speed of up to 4.6GHz) and up to 16 GB of RAM. The LG Gram 14 2-in-1 also manages to fit in a sizable battery for up to 21 hours of battery life on a charge.

Microsoft Surface Book 2

Display: 13.5 inches, 3000 x 2000 resolution; 15 inches, 3240 x 2160 resolution

Why it's hot: While not a 2-in-1 in the same sense as the others on this list, Microsoft's Surface Book 2 nonetheless features a display that is usable in multiple different modes.

The display fully detaches from the keyboard for use as a Windows 10 tablet, and the display can be flipped all the way around the reattached to the keyboard for use in stand mode.

The Surface Book 2 also features major horsepower with an available eighth-gen Intel Core i7 processor (clock speed of up to 4.2GHz), an option for discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics, and up to 16 GB of RAM. In addition, the Surface Book offers up to 17 hours of battery life and several ports, including both USB-C and USB-A.
