Efex acquires cybersecurity services provider Datcom
Efex hoping to provide an extensive managed service offering to customers in Australia and New Zealand.
Managed services provider efex has acquired cybersecurity services provider Datcom to deliver more cyber-related services to their customers in the ANZ region.
Through this acquisition, efex said it will deliver a more extensive managed services offering to Australian and New Zealand clients with specialisation in professional services, education, healthcare, mining & local government
Nick Sheehan, Founder and CEO at efex told CRN Australia this acquisition is a “great fit” for the company.
“The business has had solid year on year revenue growth and improves the efex core offering. Being based in Sydney also gives us a chance to build on the strong presence we already have and bring the teams together culturally,” he said.
“We’re particularly impressed by how proactive the team is in delivering for customers, and there’s a clear opportunity to bring in more structured offerings and align our systems.”
There will be no staff changes at Datcom or efex.
“We see the value in Datcom’s existing team and we look forward to welcoming them into our office,” Sheehan said.
The efex CEO noted no impact is anticipated for Datcom and efex customers.
“Services will continue as usual. We are excited to introduce Datcom’s customers to efex’s broader offering,” he said.
Sheehan said the Datcom team are experts in the highly complex and continuously evolving cyber security space, which is increasingly difficult for businesses to navigate.
“Our integration will deliver more sophisticated cybersecurity support for our clients across the Trans-Tasman, leveraging advanced automation and in-depth threat analysis to help our clients identify vulnerabilities and build more resilient systems,” he explained.
Sheehan noted that the Datcom acquisition adds depth to its project pipeline and gives staff the chance to specialise and grow within a national business.
“There’s also no heavy reliance on any single customer, which sets us up well for stable, long-term growth,” he said.
In 2024 alone, efex made four acquisitions, including Adelaide based Aish IT, Canberra based Wyscom, Geelong based Worldmark Corporate Consulting, and medical IT solutions business Medihost.
In the coming months, Datcom and efex will prioritise the seamless integration of both businesses. Datcom will operate under the efex brand and will retain its existing team of specialists, led by Rube Sayed, general manager at Datcom.
This is the company’s fifth acquisition in the past 18 months.
Established in 1997 by Jay Sayed, Datcom is a cybersecurity services leader and trusted partner. It has helped organisations navigate the complexities of today’s evolving digital landscape, providing cybersecurity solutions that are tailored to meet specific needs.
This includes delivering strategic guidance, bespoke infrastructure support, and supporting the ongoing management of operations.
Efex has more than 7500 customers, operating from 22 locations across Australia and New Zealand.
