AWS launches infrastructure region in New Zealand
Help to serve the growing demand for cloud services in the region.
AWS has launched in the New Zealand region, as AWS APAC (NZ) in a bid to deepen collaboration with local partners and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
According to AWS, this new region will help serve the growing demand for cloud services across the country and empower organisations of all sizes to accelerate their digital transformation.
The infrastructure includes three Availability Zones, connected via high-bandwidth, low-latency, fully redundant fibre, enabling partners to build and scale advanced applications locally.
The AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region will enable customers with data residency preferences or requirements to store their content securely in New Zealand, enable customers to achieve even lower latency, and serve demand for cloud services across Asia Pacific.
As part of its long-term commitment, Amazon is planning to invest more than NZ$7.5 billion in New Zealand to support the construction, connection, operation, and maintenance of its data centres in the country
Some of AWS’ customers in New Zealand include, AMP New Zealand, Kiwibank, Ministry of Transport, New Zealand Post, One New Zealand, TVNZ, University of Auckland, Wellington City Council, and Xero.
A spokesperson at AWS told CRN Australia, “The launch of the AWS Region in New Zealand is an exciting moment and showcases our commitment to strengthening New Zealand’s Cloud and AI capabilities.
“Our investment in digital infrastructure and Amazon’s commitment to digital skills can accelerate New Zealand technology businesses and help New Zealanders move into highly skilled, secure, and well-paid technology jobs.”
The spokesperson continuee, “The investment will empower AWS partners to better help local organisations accelerate cloud migration and modernisation, and leverage advanced AWS technologies, from core cloud capabilities to artificial intelligence and machine learning, all while meeting local data residency requirements."
An AWS spokesperson said its partners are their “force multiplier” for driving customer innovation in New Zealand.
“We want to support AWS local partners in adding value with their deep industry expertise and solutions, scale and local reach, strong executive connections, skills, history of engagement, and understanding of customer needs,” they said.

AWS will be working closely with New Zealand-based AWS partners. Some of these partners include Accenture, Arcanum, CustomD, CyberCX, Datacom, Deloitte, The Instillery, Lancom, MongoDB, and Westcon-Comstor.
