Datadog acquires observability brand Metaplane to enhance value of its platform
Datadog says this deal will benefit its partners and end users across ANZ.
Observability and security platform Datadog has acquired Metaplane to enhance the value of the platform for its partners and end users across Australia and New Zealand.
The acquisition of Metaplane accelerates Datadog’s expansion into data observability—building on launches of related products like data jobs monitoring and data streams monitoring.
Metaplane, is an end-to-end data observability platform that provides machine learning-powered monitoring and column-level lineage to prevent, detect and resolve data quality issues across a company’s entire data stack.
Michael Whetten, VP of product at Datadog said observability is no longer just for developers and IT teams.
“It’s now an essential part of data teams’ day-to-day responsibilities as they manage increasingly complex and business-critical workflows,” he said.
“This complexity will become even more pronounced as more businesses deploy AI applications. By unifying observability across applications and data, Datadog will help organisations build reliable AI systems.”
An Australian spokesperson for Datadog told CRN Australia that unifying observability across apps and data will enhance the value of the platform for its partners and end users across A/NZ.
“Particularly as they look to build reliable data and AI products while bridging the gap between software and data teams,” the spokesperson said.
According to the Australian spokesperson, “The acquisition creates new avenues for our partners to deliver services based on a broader set of Datadog solutions around data observability.
“An important distinction to make is we always re-code our acquisitions so they are fully incorporated into the Datadog platform.”
Through this acquisition, the Australian spokesperson for Datadog said the company is ultimately looking to help channel partners and end user organisations build reliable AI systems.
“Observability has moved up the stack – it isn’t just a developer or IT tool now, it’s a fundamental platform for data teams to make crucial decisions on how they manage workflows and ultimately build the AI systems that their organisations will use,” they said.
Developers and data teams are responsible for building business-critical AI applications and data products, and yet they’ve lacked the same end-to-end visibility into their data available to other teams, the spokesperson said.
“The combination of Datadog and Metaplane means those teams can all see the same data insights from production through to transformation and consumption, boosting visibility and the ability for customers to take action based on more informed insights,” they said.
Kevin Hu, co-founder and CEO of Metaplane said their mission at Metaplane is to help companies ensure trust in the data that powers their business.
“Joining forces with Datadog enables us to bring data observability to tens of thousands more companies, while bringing data teams and software teams closer together,” he added.
