Telstra Health has leveraged two new platforms to enhance the care journey for clinicians, consumers and carers.

Partnering with Salesforce and Snowflake, Farhoud Salimi, chief technology officer, Telstra Health told CRN Australia how these platforms helped the company tackle its challenges with fragmented data.

“Snowflake allows us to bring disparate datasets and machine learning capabilities together into a unified data platform optimised for data analytics,” he said.

“These capabilities complement our existing partnership with Smile Digital Health to create an interconnected ecosystem that bridges healthcare gaps, enhances care delivery, and ensures the best possible health and well-being outcomes for all.”

By leveraging Salesforce and Snowflake, with their existing partner, Smile Digital Health, Telstra Health is developing solutions built on open, standards-based architecture that promote broader data sharing and interoperability.

“Smile’s health data platform enables seamless data exchange across healthcare settings, through a unified, Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR)-compliant platform,” Salimi said.

“Collectively, these platforms allow us to deliver deeper data insights and enhanced analytics to support better decision-making and improve interoperability between healthcare systems.

“Ultimately, we want to provide simplicity and tangible value to our customers, making healthcare more connected, intelligent, and efficient.”

Salimi noted Salesforce and Snowflake aligned with Telstra Health in values, expertise and technological capabilities.

“Leveraging the collective technological capabilities within Salesforce, Snowflake and Telstra Health sets the foundation to develop market leading solutions that deliver value to customers,” he said.

“Together, these partnerships enhance our ability to deliver connected, intelligent and sustainable solutions on a global scale.”

Salimi explained Telstra Health intends to build on these platform capabilities and services.

“Thereby simplifying our technology stack and allowing teams to focus on delivering differentiated solutions that offers greatest value to customers,” he said.

“In particular, low and no code platform capabilities will allow us to ideate and iterate features with customers in a shorter time than is possible with existing software development methodologies, improving time to value for our customers.”

Focus on improving experience

Salimi explained everything Telstra Health does is focused on improving the experience for clinicians and other providers of care, so that their focus can remain on the patient, the resident, and the individual.

“Technology and standards can help streamline data management, making it easier for clinicians to access relevant and trusted information and make timely decisions,” he said.

“Emerging and innovative tech will continue to empower clinicians, not replace them, by providing information at their fingertips.”

One example of this is Telstra Health has launched Smart Scribe, an AI-powered, voice recognition clinical note-taking tool, designed to improve productivity and patient care by easing the administration burden currently facing general practitioners across Australia.

Salimi highlighted the importances of technology partners to the company’s modernisation process, calling them a “a key strategic pillar”.

“Telstra Health’s clinical and digital health expertise will be strengthened by these expanded technology partnerships, all supporting the delivery of our modernisation programme to connect care using a trusted, unified platform,” he said.

“These partners support our goals of improving healthcare data exchange and enhancing patient care. By collaborating with the right technology partners, we can leverage their strengths to drive innovation, ensure seamless integration and ultimately delivery better outcomes for our customers and patients.

“Their contribution is essential in making our healthcare solutions more efficient, secure and effective.”

For the next year, Salimi said Telstra Health will be working with clinicians, customers and partners on it’s platform approach.
