VIDEO: Logicalis’ Peter Cardassis on why boards need to be more careful in implementing AI
In terms of AI implementation, the technical services director says boards are “trying to put on the roof without laying the foundations”.
Customers understand the need to implement AI, however, Logicalis Australia technical services director Peter Cardassis noted that boards are beginning to rush projects.
He is noticing boards are rushing to use AI to create efficiencies, which in turn is causing some “poor technical choices”.
“What we're seeing is a lot of organisations trying to install the roof without boring any of the foundations, what is at stake here is system integrity,” Cardassis explained.
He highlighted the importance of the recently announced National AI Plan that can help organisations in their AI implementation.
"The National AI Plan is great in terms of, and it's a huge win, it professionalises the sector,” he said.
“With the launch of that AI Safety Institute as well, what we're seeing is that shift towards that meaningful accountability.”
For Cardassis at Logicalis Australia, meaningful accountability is around ensuring the guardrails are in place for their customers.
“Why I say that though is there is a bit of a readiness gap. If you think about governance and resilience, this is where we see risks to organisations not being ready in terms of adopting AI,” he explained.
