Cloud data company Sigma has expanded into the APJ region, opening its headquarters in Sydney and appointing a new VP for the region.

Bede Hackney has been selected as Sigma’s vice president for APJ, who was most recently the head of ANZ at Zoom.

Prior to Zoom, he was the VP ANZ for Databricks. Hackney has previously held senior leadership positions with technology companies, including Tenable, Nimble Storage, VMWare, and Citrix.

Speaking to CRN Australia, Hackney said Sigma sees “tremendous growth potential” in the APJ region.

“Cloud data warehouse adoption is accelerating at least as quickly here as in any other part of the world, and those customers deserve the same real-time access to the full power of their data that Sigma delivers globally,” he said.

Hackney said the company see opportunities for its customers and partners within the region.

“We’re starting in ANZ, where cloud data adoption is already mature, and innovation is accelerating rapidly,” he said.

“At the same time, we’re proud to already support customers across the broader region who are using Sigma today. Sigma is committed to the APJ market and to building a robust, customer-focused regional presence.”

Hackney noted that the company’s technology and consulting partnerships are the “backbone of our APJ strategy”.

“They’ve already driven significant value for existing customers, and given the region’s geographic and language diversity, partners will remain central to how we scale,” he said.

“Alongside our partners, customers, and the phenomenal Sigma team, we are ready to accelerate moving from dashboards and insight to systems that act, across the continent, and drive a new wave of data-driven innovation.”

This move has been a part of the company’s global expansion, where it also recently opened offices in London and New York.
