Data centre operator TenPeaks launches in New Zealand
CEO Michael Stribling said they see a huge opportunity to develop the NZ data centre market.
Data centre operator TenPeaks has officially launched in New Zealand to support and grow cloud and AI organisations.
According to TenPeaks, it has a national footprint of operating data centres.
The business operates 23MW of IT capacity across 11 facilities and has a development pipeline of over 130MW on owned land. It has three major development campuses within the Auckland market.
Auckland serves as a critical landing point for global submarine cable systems, providing direct, low-latency connections to international networks, and is forecast to see data centre demand grow at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 21 percent over the next five years.
Previously owned by New Zealand telco Spark, a 75 percent interest of TenPeaks was sold to Pacific Equity Partners (PEP).
PEP is one of Australasia’s largest private markets firm, with $18 billion across various investment strategies.
This new launch also brings a new CFO, Rob Woodgate who has had held similar roles at Fulton Hogan and Ryman Healthcare.
Michael Stribling, TenPeaks CEO told CRN Australia that they see a “huge opportunity” to develop the New Zealand data centre market.
“We also see significant opportunity for New Zealand to capture a share of global market growth and develop digital infrastructure as an export market – being sustainable investment to support New Zealand’s productivity,” he said.
“As one of New Zealand’s largest data centre operators, TenPeaks will be at the core of that growth. Our team is focused on supporting our broad domestic and international customer base, advancing our development pipeline of more than 130MW of capacity, and delivering high-quality digital infrastructure solutions to our customers.
“This includes working with national and local government, partners in energy supply and transmission, and the infrastructure and construction sectors to make New Zealand a natural choice for data centre investment and growth.”
Stribling highlighted the importance of the channel to TenPeaks.
“A key initial partner for co-location services across enterprise government and international customers is Spark NZ, given the heritage of TenPeaks and Spark’s shareholding,” he said.
“We value channel partnerships, particularly where these enable us to access international relationships, and we will seek to build these as we develop TenPeaks – where partners have customer demand for the New Zealand market we’d love to have a conversation.”
TenPeaks has a broad set of domestic and international customers, representing a broad range of New Zealand’s public and private sectors.
“We are investing to continue to support and grow these relationships across Aotearoa. We see significant growth potential in cloud computing (hyperscale focus), artificial intelligence, and content delivery services, and our development pipeline is focused on this,” Stribling ended.
