Apex Steel has modernised its operations through implementing a swathe of new technology, integrated by reseller and ISV LogiQ-On Technology.

Prior to the modernisation the steel company was facing challenges with a legacy paper-based system bringing about inaccurate stock counts and fulfilment delays.

Apex Steel deployed several solutions from Zebra Technologies including its MC9 series ultra-rugged mobile computers, ZT400 series industrial printers, and DS3600 series ultra-rugged barcode scanners.

As part of the deployment, Apex Steel’s warehouse management system (WMS) was upgraded to Produmex WMS, which connects seamlessly to the company’s existing SAP Business One (B1) system.

Chris Fernando, managing director at LogiQ-On Tech told CRN Australia why Zebra Technologies chose to work with the reseller.

“Zebra selected LogiQ-On Tech based on our proven capability and long-standing customer partnerships,” he said.

“Apex Steel had stringent requirements around scanning performance, ruggedness, reliability, and long-term hardware support.

He added, “Zebra devices met—and in many cases exceeded—these operational prerequisites, ensuring a smooth and confident hardware selection process.”

Fernando noted that they were selected for several reasons including “deep expertise” in wireless infrastructure, strong alignment with leading technology vendors, and trusted long-term relationships.

According to Fernando, the initial engagement commenced in late 2021 with hardware consultation and platform selection.

“LogiQ-On Tech has remained continuously involved, supporting Apex Steel through hardware expansions, upgrades, and ongoing solution enhancements,” he said.

Fernando said LogiQ-On Tech has supported Apex Steel’s supply‑chain technology needs since the early days of their business.

“Delivering dependable deployment services and responsive ongoing support,” he explained.

“We remain committed to enabling Apex Steel’s continued digital transformation and operational enhancement across their end‑to‑end supply chain.”

Through this new warehouse technology, Apex Steel has seen order receiving become six times faster.

In a statement, Nick Lachimea, chief corporate officer, Apex Steel said, “Receiving orders could take up to an hour. With Zebra’s MC9 series mobile computers, it now takes 10 minutes, making our team six times faster.

“We can tell a customer immediately if we have an item in stock and commit to next-day delivery with 99 percent confidence."
