The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating the breach of social networking site Ashley Madison, according to a Reuters report.
The probe follows last August's hack which exposed personal details of 32 million members.
The two newly appointed executives of parent company Avid Life Media recently issued apologies, admitting that more budget could have been allotted to security, and stated that millions is now being spent to upgrade security to ensure privacy for the site which matches married individuals for affairs.
However, besides a number of class action lawsuits on behalf of customers and confirmation that Avid manipulated the site by posting phony female profiles, or fembots, capable of conversing with male customers, the company is now said to be the target of an FTC probe.
After simple backdoors were detected in Avid Life's servers, experts from Deloitte were hired to help the site meet compliance to payment card industry standards.
