Avnet gives Aussie resellers free trip to the cloud

Avnet Technology Solutions is readying to launch Avnet Cloud Services, its ready-to-go private cloud business practice for the local reseller market that will require no upfront investment.

Avnet Cloud Services will offer A/NZ resellers white label cloud services that they can re-brand as their own. The service comes with a a 99.999 percent uptime guarantee (a maximum of 26 seconds downtime per month) and 24/7 customer support provided by Avnet's 25-strong team of Sydney-based engineers.

Resellers can also choose their own billing terms; either maintaining the transactional relationship with the customer and receiving an invoice at channel rates, or arranging for Avnet to bill the customer directly and pay rebates to the reseller.

Avnet's local services boss Adam Chicktong told CRN the company was predicting "huge growth" for the cloud market in the A/NZ region, with lucrative business opportunities emerging for canny resellers.

"According to Forrester Research, the cloud market in APAC will grow from $8 billion to $24 billion in the next three years – with most of that growth coming from Australia/New Zeland and Singapore," Chicktong said. "So it's an absolutely massive market opportunity."

However, despite the hype surrounding cloud, Chicktong noted many channel partners were struggling to understand how cloud services could be turned to their advantage – which is where Avnet's offering comes in.

"The reality is, the cloud is not necessarily as simplistic as people make it out to be," Chicktong said. "What actually is it? Do people know there are three types of cloud? Do they know there are different delivery models?

"What we're trying to do is enable the channel to offer private cloud and capitalise on those opportunities. Our focus as a business is 100 percent on the channel, so we're not going direct to the business – we're absolutely focused on just driving this business to the channel."

Over the next twelve months, Avnet will be running structured cloud-building training sessions on how to sell, present and pitch Avnet Cloud Services. The training will also be provided free of charge.

"If we go out and start looking at charging for these sorts of services it's a natural deterrent. So we're trying to provide all these services free of charge just to get them up and running," Chicktong said.

Chicktong declined to disclose how many channel partners were currently signed to the service, but claimed the company had received a "tremendous amount" of interest.
