ConnectWise co-founder David Bellini has stepped away from his role at the tech company after being arrested on drug charges.
Bellini was arrested in Tampa, Florida on Sunday 11 February in possession of heroin and fentanyl, a prescription opioid, and released on Monday 12 February, according to an arrest report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Connectwise announced that Bellini would take indefinite leave from his role as president of ConnectWise International.
Gregg Lalle, vice president of international sales, will continue as the executive sales leader for the international division, reporting into chief executive Arnie Bellini, who co-founded Connectwise with David, his brother, in 1982.
David Bellini has been removed from the company's website.
In a company statement, ConnectWise chief operations officer Jason Magee said: "On February, 11, 2018 ConnectWise executive management became aware that David Bellini, co-founder and president of international, is facing health issues associated with the use of prescription and non-prescription pain medications.
"David has been suffering chronic pain for several years and has unfortunately fallen prey to overuse of these substances, resulting in potential charges – the outcome of which we cannot predict.
"Our hearts go out to David and his children during this difficult time. The entire ConnectWise family looks forward to David’s return to health and well-being.
"The ConnectWise executive team is broad and deep. We will continue delivering on our vision to provide the industry’s most comprehensive software ecosystem for technology teams," said Magee.
