Field Solutions Group scores $500k grant to build broadband network in south west Queensland

Broadband network provider Field Solutions Group FSG has been awarded a grant from the Queensland state government to build a broadband network in the state's south west.

The company was given $500,000 via the “Building our Regions” grants to build a fibre and fixed wireless network in the Shire of Bulloo, which sits on the borders of New South Wales and South Australia.

The network will deliver residential and business internet access through FSG’s retail service provider JustISP. Network planning starts this month and construction is expected to start towards the end of the year.

The grant is part of FSG’s shire-wide plan to improve digital connectivity for six local councils, all of which were awarded a total of $6 million in grants.

In an ASX announcement (pdf) released today, FSG chief executive Andrew Roberts said, “There are some large distances to cover for the project, and our experience and expertise from the recently completed Blackall-Tambo Shire connectivity project have been invaluable to the company and a source of reassurance to the council.”

“By working together, reusing in-place council assets and planning the rollout, we can cost-effectively and efficiently deploy our network where NBN can only provide satellite services,” Roberts added.

Last year, FSG built a similar network in the Blackall and Tambo townships in central west Queensland, building a number of comms towers in the area.

FSG specialises broadband networks for rural, regional and remote areas across Australia, and also provides retail services on its own network and on the NBN through its JustISP and Ant Communications brands.
