Google confirms issues affecting Gmail, Google Drive

Update 13 March 5:20pm: "The problem with Gmail/Google Drive should be resolved. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better."

Google has confirmed an issue affecting Gmail and Google Drive globally, with the effects felt particularly in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

The company said it's investigating reports of issues affecting both services, and that it would provide an update soon.

“The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behaviour.”

Google said Gmail's issues include attaching files, accessing attachments, accessing and saving draft emails and sending emails, while Google Drive users will have issues uploading and downloading files.

Reports started coming in at 1:53 pm AEDT and are still ongoing. AussieOutages logged up to 2822 reports with Gmail and 118 reports with Drive.

The site also logged 530 reports on Google's search engine, with a few more from Google Play and YouTube.

Google Cloud also confirmed there are issues affecting Cloud Storage impacting customers in all regions, as well as an outage of Google App Engine. Google is currently undergoing mitigation work with the underlying storage infrastructure.

The cloud platform had been hit by a litany of issues over the past few days, including an outage affecting Google Cloud Console yesterday. Other services affected since last week include Cloud Dataflow, CLoud Functions, BigQuery, Cloud Machine Learning, Cloud Networking, Stackdriver and Kubernetes Engine.
