Kaspersky prepares for enterprise relaunch: UPDATED

The vendor said the new version of OpenSpace Security, which scales up to 50,000 seats, will be sold 100 percent through the channel.

However, retail is a central plank to Kaspersky's strategy for its SMB product, Small Office Security. Small Office includes a server and five workstations and upgrades are sold in bundles of five. The current agreement with Officeworks is not all about sales but about also branding, said Torudd.

"The more space in those stores, the more people get to see our products."

Kaspersky is in talks with JB Hifi and Harvey Norman for some products, although nothing has been confirmed, said Torudd.

Torudd said Kaspersky was looking at releasing its hosted security product, Kaspersky Hosted Security, in Australia, but no date had been set. The service is only available in the US and Europe.

"The potential [for a hosted service] here is massive," said Torudd, especially in Australia with its large SMB market. "To purchase a service where everything is taken care of is awesome."

However, Torudd warned that the six-person Australian branch was not ready to support a hosted service. Kaspersky had deliberately refrained from outsourcing support to an Indian call centre to ensure quality of service, said Torudd.

"For us to go out and launch hosted security today [in Australia] would be a disaster. We don't have the tech support for it right now," said Torudd. "We would need to make sure we had the infrastructure to support it. all comes down to the quality of the offering."
